KNIGHTS GET BACK ON WINNING TRACK WITH 3-0 WIN OVER SACRED HEART

February 7, 2004

Potsdam, NY – Freshman goaltender Stephanie Hansen (Calgary, ALB) needed to make just five saves for her first career shutout as the Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team ended a two-game losing streak with a 3-0 win over Sacred Heart University Saturday evening at Cheel Arena.

The Golden Knights (14-10-3) owned impressive shot advantages in each of the first two periods, out shooting the Pioneers 17-2 in the opening frame and 20-1 in the second stanza. However, the Golden Knights capitalized on only two of those first 37 occasions. Sophomore center Kate Allgood (Toronto, ONT) scored her team-leading 13th goal of the season, a power-play marker, at the 14:33 mark of the first period. Freshman Jill Nolan (Labrador, NF) and classmate Christine Bailkowski (Aurora, ONT) each were awarded assists on the goal.

Clarkson scored its second goal of the game at 4:24 in to the second period when freshman Emma Madigan (Mississauga, ONT) scored her ninth goal of the season when she put home a shot after a scrum in front of the net after skating in down near the right circle. Nolan picked up her second assist of the game and 11th of the season on the Knights’ second goal.

The Golden Knights picked up their third goal of the game when junior center Kristi Shaw (Belleville, ONT) scored her third of the season with a shot that trickled through the legs of Pioneers’ goaltender Stephanie Boulay (Anchorage, AK). Nolan and Bailkowski each picked up assists on Shaw’s goal. Clarkson enjoyed a significant advantage in shots in the third period that mirrored their efforts in the opening two periods, out shooting Sacred Heart 13-2. Boulay finished with 47 saves.

The Golden Knights were 1-for-4 on the power play, while the Pioneers were held scoreless in four opportunities.

Clarkson and the Pioneers (6-9) will face off again at 2:00 pm on Sunday.
