Boston, MA - Freshman Katie Morrison (Ridgefield, CT) scored two goals in the third period as the Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team rallied for a 2-1 victory against Northeastern University at Matthews Arena in Boston on Sunday afternoon. The Golden Knights, who rallied to tie nationally-ranked Providence College, 3-3, in Rhode Island on Saturday, improve their record to 3-2-3 overall.
Clarkson, which out shot the Huskies 44-26, trailed 1-0 after two periods, but battled back in the third to snap a five-game winless stretch. Morrison tallied her first of the game at 2:10 of the final stanza off an assist from freshman Amanda Dittmer (Chatham, ONT). At 10:09, Morrison scored unassisted for her fourth goal of the year and the game-winner to cap off a successful weekend in New England for the Green and Gold.
Sophomore Kira McDonald (Pickering, ONT) posted 25 saves in the win, including 10 in the third period. Both teams were held scoreless on the power play, with Clarkson going 0-of-9 and Northeastern 0-of-7.
The Knights return to Potsdam for a game on Saturday against Division III powerhouse Elmira College in a 2:00 p.m. game at Cheel Arena.
