Providence, RI - The Clarkson University Women's Hockey team gave ninth-ranked Brown University all it could handle Friday night, but the Golden Knights came up just short in their bid to remain unbeaten in the ECACHL falling 2-1 at Meehan Auditorium.
Clarkson, which stands at 4-3-3 overall and 2-1-0 in the ECACHL, plays at #4-ranked Harvard on Saturday in Cambridge, MA. The Crimson defeated St. Lawrence 5-1 on Friday.
After a scoreless first period, Brown (5-3, 4-2 ECACHL) took a 2-0 lead with a pair of goals eight seconds apart midway through the middle stanza. The Knights cut the gap to one as sophomore captain Lindsay Williams (Mississauga, ONT) tallied unassisted at 10:04 of the third for her third goal of the season.
Clarkson pulled sophomore goaltender Kira McDonald (Pickering, ONT) for the extra skater with 15 seconds left, but could not force the game to overtime. Brown out shot the Knights 21-15. Clarkson was 0-of-5 on the power play, while the Bears were 0-of-3 with the advantage.
