Potsdam, NY – Sophomores Ashley Shaidle (Hudson, OH) and Christine Bailkowski (Aurora, ONT) both scored two goals to lead Clarkson University past Elmira College, 6-2, in non-conference action at Cheel Arena Saturday afternoon. The Golden Knights, who won their second straight game, improve their record to 4-2-3 overall. The Soaring Eagles, from Division III, suffer their first loss falling to 2-1.
Shailde opened the scoring with back-to-back power-play goals at 10:36 and 15:09 of the first period. Sophomore Jill Nolan (Labrador, NF) made it 3-0 for the Knights at 4:58 of the second with her team-high seventh goal of the season. Elmira got on the scoreboard to start the third with Stacy Collins’ goal at 2:32. Freshman Brooke Beazer (Kingston, ONT) put Clarkson back up by three with her third collegiate goal at 6:34. Shannon Sargent answered back with the Soaring Eagles’ second goal at 10:04. Bailkowski, however, ended any thoughts of an Elmira comeback by scoring her first two goals of the season late in the final stanza. Bailkowski netted her first of year, a power-play marker at 12:32 off freshman Katie Morrison’s (Ridgefield, CT) second assist of the contest and closed out the win with the game’s final goal with just 45 seconds remaining. Freshmen Amanda Dittmer (Chatham, ONT) and Jessica Cloutier (Parker, CO) picked up their second assists of the game on the goal.
Clarkson out shot Elmira 32-17. Sophomore Kira McDonald (Pickering, ONT) picked up her third win of the year in the Knights’ goal with 15 saves. The Knights were 3-of-4 on the power play and killed off all three Elmira power plays.
