Erie, PA - The Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team dropped it second game of the weekend at eighth-ranked Mercyhurst College as the Lakers defeated the Golden Knights 4-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Ice Center. On Friday, Mercyhurst edged the Green and Gold 2-1.
The Lakers jumped out to a 3-0 first-period lead before Clarkson got on the board with sophomore Jill Nolan’s (Labrador, NF) team-high fifth goal of the season, a power-play marker at 5:10 of the middle stanza. Freshman Jessica Cloutier (Parker, CO) and sophomore defenseman Christina Valesente (Ithaca, NY) assisted.
Mercyhurst added its fourth goal midway through the third frame.
The Lakers out shot Clarkson, 35-16. Sophomore Kira McDonald (Pickering, ONT) posted 31 saves for the Knights. Both teams were 1-of-5 on the power play. The Lakers also recorded a shorthanded tally.
The Knights, at 2-2-2, travel to New England next weekend to play at nationally-ranked Providence and Northeastern on Saturday and Sunday, November 6-7.
