Potsdam, NY - Kristin Kaczynski scored a game-high 17 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as Rensselaer defeated the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team 69-43 in an Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association (UCAA) league game Friday night at Clarkson's Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights fell to 6-9 overall and 1-3 in the UCAA while RPI improved to 11-2 and 4-0 in the UCAA.

In the first half, the Golden Knights fell behind by nine in the opening nine minutes, but closed the gap quickly to 18-16 at the 8:30 mark. Rensselaer then went on a 12-0 run over the next six minutes before Clarkson could finally muster another score on a lay up by Linda Fernandez (Kennebunkport, ME). The Red Hawks went into the half with a 14-point advantage, 32-18. Jacqueline Ferrari led RPI with eight points and four rebounds at the break while Kaitlyn Saunders added seven points and three rebounds. Fernandez led Clarkson with 6 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals in the opening frame.

For the game, Fernandez finished with a team-high 15 points, grabbed 6 rebounds, dished out 4 assists and made 9 steals for the Golden Knights. Mickala Henson (Waverly, NY) added nine points and three blocks for Clarkson.

RPI enjoyed a significant advantage on the boards, outrebounding Clarkson 54-33, and saw five players score in double figures. The Golden Knights also were held to just 28.3 percent shooting from the floor.

The Golden Knights return to action on Saturday when they host UCAA foe Vassar College.
