December 6, 2003

Ashley Shaidle scored five goals in the win over Colby
Potsdam, NY – Ashley Shaidle (Hudson, OH) and Lindsay Williams (Mississauga, ONT) scored five and four goals, respectively, as the Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team broke out of a six-game winless skid with its most explosive outing of the season in Saturday’s 11-1 victory over Colby College at Cheel Arena. The Golden Knights, who close out the 2003 portion of the schedule with Sunday’s game against Bowdoin, improve to 6-6-2, while the Mules, of Division III, fall to 0-6.

Williams opened a high-scoring first period with her fourth goal of the season on a wrist shot from the bottom of the left circle at 5:55. Colby came right back when Jennifer McAleer knocked in her own rebound for an unassisted goal at 7:51. The Knights regained the lead on Shaidle’s first goal of the contest at 8:55. Brenna Louey (Brooks, ALB) made it 3-1 with her first collegiate goal, a power-play marker at 11:13. Shaidle closed out the opening stanza with her second goal of the game at 17:46.

Clarkson took total command of the game in the second scoring five goals while not allowing Colby a shot on goal. Williams tallied the first three goals for the Knights to give Clarkson a 7-1 lead at 13:49. Shaidle made it 8-1 at 14:53 and Christine Hurlock (Blue Bell, PA) put the Green and Gold on top 9-1 with her first collegiate goal with eight seconds left in the middle frame.

Shaidle added her ninth and 10th goals of the season in the third period to close out Clarkson’s dominating win.

The Knights outshot Colby 44-7. Stephanie Hansen (Calgary, ALB) started in goal and recorded the win for Clarkson with two first-period saves. Jessica Finley (Arvada, CO) made her first appearance in the Clarkson goal this season playing the final 40 minutes and turned aside all four shots she faced in the third period. Alex Harris (Windsor, CT) posted 33 saves for the Mules.
