CLARKSON FALLS IN OVERTIME TO 10th-RANKED NORTHEASTERN

November 14, 2003

Boston, MA - The Clarkson University Women's Hockey team proved that in its first year of existence it already can hold its own against the nation's elite teams as the Golden Knights were barely edged in overtime, 1-0, by 10th-ranked Northeastern University Friday evening at Matthews Arena.

After three periods of scoreless hockey, freshman Mia Mucci scored her first goal of the season at the 1:47 mark in overtime to lift the Huskies to the 1-0 win. Classmates Crystal Rochon and Marie Desrosiers assisted on the play. Desrosiers won the face off at the right circle and Rochon deflected the puck to Mucci in the right slot where she slipped a one-timer to the near post to beat Golden Knights goaltender Kira McDonald (Pickering, Ontario).

The loss drops the Golden Knights to to 5-3-1 overall. McDonald made 28 saves for the Golden Knights while Northeastern's Katy Augustyn made 13 stops for her second career shutout. Both teams were 0-for-3 on the power play and the Golden Knights trailed in shot attempts, 29-13.

Clarkson continues its three-day road trip on Saturday when they face Quinnipiac College at 2:00 pm in Hamden, CT.
