Sophomore David Kinney leads the Liberty League in home runs per game

With seven selections, the Clarkson University Baseball team trailed only league regular-season winner Rochester in Liberty League All-Star nods, as the Golden Knights saw three players earn First-Team status for their outstanding seasons.

Senior Brett Peplowski (Albany, NY), an all-star selection as a sophomore, led the four-year players by gaining first-team designated hitter honors. Peplowski batted a career-best .368 this season with a team-leading on-base percentage of .479. He also slugged .516 with two home runs and 20 RBI while adding a patient eye in accumulating 20 walks.

Sophomores Jerry Coleman (Potsdam, NY) and David Kinney (Mexico, NY) led the team offensively for most of the season and were noticed by the league's coaches as well. Coleman batted .368 with team-highs in runs (31), hits (46), and stolen bases (9), all while playing the outfield, catcher, shorstop, first base, and pitcher. Classmate David Kinney wasn't the diamond traveler that Coleman was, but he did lead the team in several offensive categories, including batting (.383), slugging (.626), home runs (6), and doubles (10).

Gaining Second-Team all-star nods were seniors Matt Curry (Richland, NY) and Brady Torbitt (Fulton, NY) as well as junior David Goerold (Clifton Park, NY). Curry tied for the team lead with nine steals and batted .281 with 34 hits and 22 runs scored. More importantly, Curry made just four errors all season, despite playing in the middle of the diamond at shortstop and second base for 32 of the team's 33 games. Torbitt struggled with injuries through the season, but still batted .288 with 11 extra-base hits and a team-best 26 runs batted in. As for Goerold, the junior became the ace of the pitching staff, hurling seven straight complete games and compiling a record of 5-3 with a miniscule 1.98 ERA, the third-best figure in the conference.

Also receiving an all-star selection was junior Chris Falteisek (Baldwinsville, NY). In his first season as a starter, Falteisek batted .353 with 15 RBI in just 23 games.
