With another dominating effort the Clarkson University Nordic Ski teams won its third straight invitational to open the 2010 campaign by claiming top honors at its own Clarkson Invitational on Sunday at the Lake Placid, Biathlon Course. The Golden Knight men finished first out of six teams while the Clarkson women placed first out of nine schools.
In the men’s 10k classic, Clarkson placed skiers in the first, second and fourth spots for a total of seven points, easily out-pacing second-place Army (29). Sophomore Alex Benway (Queensbury, NY) led the Green and Gold with a first-place time of 30:30. Freshman Dan Stevens (Glenville, NY) finished in second (30:54), followed by senior Chris Lamothe (Colchester, VT) in fourth (31:45).
Sophomore Andrea Walsh (Underhill Center, VT) and freshman Rachel Bachman (Queensbury, NY) placed first (40:53) and second (40:57) in the women’s 10k event. Sophomore Alyssa Dausman (Syracuse, NY) posted a fifth-place showing (42:24) as Clarkson combined for eight points, followed by Cornell in second (23).
The Golden Knight men also placed the top two teams in the 3x5k relay. The Clarkson women also won their 3x5k relay.
Clarkson Nordic Ski teams will participate in the USCSA Divisionals this coming weekend in Prospect Mountain, Woodford, VT
